I'd say my favorite bands right now are Nine Inch Nails and Thursday.

Thursday's a rock/alternative sort of group, and they've been around for a while. I'd recommend their A City by the Light Divided album, particularly their Understanding in a Car Crash or The Lovesong Writer songs.

Nine Inch Nails is actually one guy, Trent Reznor, who plays all of the instruments and vocal tracks separately by himself, then splices them together. His stuff is usually rock/electronic, and usually very good. His newer songs are better, and his With Teeth album is a pretty good one. Capital G and The Hand that Feeds are good songs, and Every Day is Exactly the Same is my favorite by him right now.

Rage Against The Machine, I believe.

Some of my favourite bands at the moment... MCR... P!ATD... 30 STM... =P

Simple Plan are good too :] And SOAD. And kinda alot more.
I've heard of Nine Inch Nails and thursday and RATM but never listened to them =P
