...and indeed making contributions through new threads should be standard expectations, not "exemplary"; I therefore do not support the creation of any kind of thread popularity badge such as the two aforementioned.

so I guess both of those badge ideas where denied . . . also, has anybody tried creating a script to make a badge siggy generator? just a thought here . . . what it could do is create an image that will take an array that includes the info regarding who owns which badges, and automatically change the image to include them all . . . it would be extremely difficult to code, but it would make badge tracking a lot simpler

Excellent idea, I'll find the "admin note in sig" script (mainly to get the sig obj) and modify it accordingly. May take a bit and may not work, but it's worth a shot.

I've been looking through the ideas, and I found some badge ideas I thought were interesting. C&C's. I will pick some people like. Alter-Egos (VIROS) Changing names is really easy, but can also get really annoying. Not something to reward, more something to avoid.Awarded for having more than 3 name changes.
Rising Star (TDM) This is too general. Define "new". Define "big impact".Awarded for being relatively new, yet still making a big impact on the forums.
Special Board (Vacon) This one DOES sound like a good idea, what with the special name color failing and all that.Awarded to those who have access to the special board.
Debat er (TDM) This has been discussed before. I see nothing wrong with it. I used to be quite a debater myself, but quit due to logic starvation.Awarded to those who frequently take part in the serious debate board. (Matter of opinion of the staff who gives it to you) See quote.

I know they've been discussed before, I looked through the threads history and found old ideas . As for the Rising Star badge, probably doing something beyond the norm of a newbie. Like being very helpful, or just doing anything that really makes the forum a better place. An example would be how TSL said he recruited a lot of members when activity was low. Probably for people who have been here two months or less. Maybe three. Obviously you wouldn't lose it after two months though.

How about a retired staff badge? For everyone who once was staff but retired. Fired staff wouldn't be eligible.

Retired... Staff don't retire. They are either too inactive, banned, or fired. Usually a combo of the above. Sure, some resign...
Anyway, I really don't feel that idea would work.

We have a lot of good staff though, and no staff member will stay here forever. They'll either have to retire, get fired, or die someday.

Retiring is another name for becoming unactive and getting fired for that reason. While they are still on the forum, they wouldn't retire.
Besides, do we want to reward that kind of thing? Sure, no staff member will stay here forever, but the real question is, which will live longer: The staff member, or the forum?
Think about it. Has anyone ever retired from staff, permanently, and remained totally active here?

Think about it. Has anyone ever retired from staff, permanently, and remained totally active here? He's got a point. As for me, I'm against the idea of this badge. I think we should try to make a completely new badge instead of variations of current badges, know what I mean?

I'm all for the rising star badge. I think its a great way to reward new-ish members who are doing a lot for the forums.

Well, no, because it would just be a modified version of the Outstanding Achievement badge.
We need something new, something "fresh"!

What about just an 'Ego' badge? Well, I think TSL would deserve it for creating a whole thread that he's returned, he announced his arrival in huge blue letters and his chatango profile text is 'I'm so awesome...'.

Snipped for space by General Veers. Click on the date above the quote box to see what the thread says.
In addition to QwertyuiopThePie's comments, I would like to make the following: - A badge for changing names would only encourage others to do so, and users will become unrecognizable fast. This is highly discouraged. I decline any support for the Alter-Egos badge.
- The Special Board Badge might be an interesting idea, but no one uses the Special Board anymore on account of a lack of incentive. Those who purchase a 300 Dan-Ball password feel scammed, and I don't think a badge would make it up to them. In my own opinion, it would be a nice idea to replace the Special Board with an idea oZone had...
- I would only support the Debator Badge under the condition that people engage in formal, researched, logical debates instead of what most of our debate consists of: "Black holes are holes in space!" "No, they're invisible super-dense masses!" No one should ever qualify for this badge, no matter how often they contributed, if they have not either provided a reliable, outside source or, when applicable, completed math (with steps shown) that would provide evidence to the issue.

Would I qualify for a debator badge then?

Would ozone's idea happen to be the user sub-boards?

I agree with Veers. The first two I don't like, but the Debater badge would be a good idea.
