They don't do a lot of damage and they only freeze one person except for blizzard. What's the point of them?

To slow down enemies to allow the team a more efficient kill, before they reach them.

usually the bonus at of ice weapons is quite high, i.e. they're very strong.

ice has more constant/average dmg while thunder attacks have a large range (ex-big thunder 1-150)

Physical - You get what you see. A few rare weapons may have specials. Fire - Good for stand-still group of monsters but wheels and other fast moving monsters make it pretty useless. quick combos but low attack power. Thunder - high max and low min. Ice - good damage but slow as hell.
