A lot of people believe that global warming is a growing problem in today's world. But what do you guys thinks? Do you believe in global warming or not? If so, how do you think it possibly can be fixed?

The Earth always had periods of warm and cold (there was a "Little Ice Age" in Europe at one point), but humans after the Industrial Revolution have exaggerated the effects.
It is both natural and affected by humans.

Yeah, humans are speeding it up. A lot. we're not doing much good for it by posting....meh.

Right in this post, I am sending a signal to an orbiting satellite, which then relays the coding in this post back to Earth in waves. Those waves turn into electronic text and images and spread to computers all over the world. Then the people use their computers, which takes electricity and speeds up global warming. See? It's that simple. This little post contributes to Global Warming.

lol. not really
whether you like it or not, even if you turn off your lights or stop posting or whatever, the fuel is STILL being used to make electricity. if every one in the world just didn't use ANYTHING that took electricity from a power plant, the plants would still function and make electricity. the unused e- would just be stored for later use. so it doesn't matter what you do, the same amount is being created which uses up fuel which contributes to global warming.
so instead of running around in circles like chickens yelling about how the sky is falling, how about we find a way to FIX it instead of just 'stopping' it. we can't stop it, so let's FIX it.

There is a possibility!

How much do you guys think that humans, specifically, are speeding up the process of global warming?... Some of my friends think that we aren't the ones to blame.

I believe Global Warming is caused by everyone, and everything. We human beings blame ourselves, but nobody wants to TAKE the blame.
"Well, I use a hybrid car!"
"I turn off the lights and don't use aerosol spray!"
"I dont burn greenhouse gasses by causing fires spread all across Australia!"
Well, that's great and all, but if YOU didn't do it, who did? Everyone else but you? Untrue. Everyone is the cause of Global Warming at some point. and while it is digressed wether it really exists or not, EVERYONE is the cause of it.

EVERYONE DOES IT. BECAUSE THE POWER-PLANTS KEEP WORKING.
DON'T JUST MAKE EXCUSES! I DON'T CARE WHAT KIND OF LIGHTBULBS YOU USE!! IT DOESN'T HELP. SO DON'T JUST STAND THERE,

er... yeah, we are exaggerating the effects. The problem is, there are a lot of rich companies that will certainly go out of business if it is fixed. They do not want this to happen, and spread rumors that it is all a hoax.

[hover=S A R C A S M] Of COURSE WE, the HUMANS, the ADVANCED, couldn't POSSIBLY be to BLAME... After all, it MUST be the POLAR BEARS and their friends the PENGUINS![/hover] Yea right. Who else is to blame? We are the only ones besides Dolphins with intelligence.

The only problem with solving global warming is that our solutions could have horrible side effects, EX. A hydrogen fuel cell releases oxygen. A higher oxygenated atmosphere could lead to the development of incredibly strong forests fires and the potential for ignition of the atmosphere.

Good point. That would definitely be an end for Earth.

Here's what I propose:
We do nothing. People are making such a big deal about it, but we do practically nothing to stop it. So, what I think is that we shouldn't do anything. We should go about our daily lives doing little things here and there, but I propose we do nothing.
That way, when Earth starts to heat up because the Ozone layer is torn to pieces, perhaps people will care then.

so...don't do anything until it's too late? that's your plan?
and if we can't put any CO2 -> C + O2 reactors on weather balloons or air-ships (they fly at around the ozone layer) then we could at least leave the ozone how it is and put reactors on the fuel-burners.
and I know CO2 isn't the only 'green house gas' but still. it's the most commonly talked about.

You know, chlorofluorocarbons (wow, I spelled that right!) and free carbon interact with ozone to break it apart. CO2 reactors would only make the sun's radiation worse for us without an ozone layer to protect us...

no no, the ozone works by being "pure" O2 so it would be recreating the ozone, not making it worse. the reaction I was talking about is a decomposition reaction. taking the carbon OUT of the CO2.

Where does that carbon go?

Post by Soul Alchemist on Feb 25, 2009 18:53:57 GMT -5
probably into some storage container where it piles up into some form of coal or diamond or some other form of pure carbon. if it was coal, we could use it to remake 'fossil fuels'...sort of...
