Discuss Livetrack.
I believe it is useless, violates our forum users' privacy, and can even be tweaked to illegally track us off site. This tool seems dangerous and unneeded to our site.

I completely agree with that.
It has no point and is just the result of paranoia.

See, with Livetrack, the forum sees the issue and causes panic. Without it, the staff members can recognize it and remove the threat quietly, without panicking members.

See, with Livetrack, the forum sees the issue and causes panic. Without it, the staff members can recognize it and remove the threat quietly, without panicking members. The problem is that staff can't always recognize it until their accounts have been deleted or they have been demoted to regular member. Those were painful memories... With LiveTrack, anyone can see the problem as soon as it happens. If you only want staff to be able to recognize the problem while others are left in the dark, we can put it inside the staff board instead and remove all other instances of the threat indicators. The rumors about tracking outside of Dan-Ball do sound ominous, but no one here is THAT irresponsible. Granted, it would be nice if more people in high staff could be granted header/footer access so that one person can remove it should someone else try to abuse it.

but no one here is THAT irresponsible. Interesting to know that the one person with near-complete control of our forums was once demoted for power abuse.

Alright, I know what LiveTrack is now. Sorry for the stupid post previously. Anyways, I don't really mind LiveTrack. All it's doing is letting us know about problems on the forums. And the non-staff aren't stupid rats We won't panic and run around like idiots, we will just wait for the staff to fix the problem ASAP.

How does it violate our privacy?

It shows exactly which page we're viewing at whatever time, despite the fact that it doesn't really matter for normal users.

Today at 2:32am, TheSmoothieOfDoom wrote: Indeed. However it still sends an alert. Also, it is considered "tampering with security" and is a bannable offense for even triggering it.
I don't think you'd be able to, due to TOS - if they're accessing a URL, then the tracker is sending information about where they are, which is an invasion of privacy and therefore against TOS.
If they're attempting to modify an account that's not theirs, or the forum itself, the tracker wouldn't be able to flag it as inappropriate, as it's from an account that's allowed.
Today at 2:36am, ASimpleName wrote: Well, a temporary ban and a 50% warning, but that is unrelated to whether it is against the ToS to have one. It makes use of the knowledge of what pages people are on, but it is anonymous to all except the very high staff members, and even they can only see the username and IP of the person that triggered it.
invasion of privacy is invasion of privacy, no matter how few or many people can see it. =]
So we have it settled that it is against proboards ToS and must be removed.

Well, the alert system may not be against the ToS, just the livetrack.

Kay, why's it glowing yellow? TBH, I'd rather only be aware of the problem if I'm on chat at the time.
