danballforums.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=site&action=display&thread=5567&page=1Above is a thread detailing an idea that oZone had. I liked the idea (although I disagree with providing membergroups with any staff powers), and decided to make the home board. I have not made any sub-boards yet, considering that this may eventually be voted against and deleted. Would you like to make a board where individuals can purchase their own sub-boards, be able to buy codes for High Staff to insert that would only affect individual sub-boards (yes, sub-board code insertion is possible), and otherwise personalize their own places?

Yes. I also think that, for a price, you could make the board password protected. Of course, any staff that moderates the board would have the password. The User could then sell the password to people. Good or Bad idea?

I was thinking that passwords ought to be default, but I think I prefer your idea better (selling optional passwords to members)...
Great idea!
As a matter of fact, we could create a "Password" sub-board inside the Members Board that would be staff-only and would contain the different passwords of the different sub-boards, so that we would have a record in case someone forgets his/her password...

So then buying a board could be an "investment"? You could actually Gain DB's?
I believe that there shouldn't be any staff powers available, and that codes must be pre-approved.

Naturally, and users must understand that some codes may not be compatible. If there is a problem concerning codes, refunds should be permitted if staff took the Dan-Balls before placing the code...
I added on to my above post...

Also, if they dont have all the variables in the code already, they will not be modified. They need to understand that the staff members job isn't to set the code up. That is what they need to do before hand. The staff member should only have to copy/paste the code in.

Hmm...maybe there should be a link inside whatever shop indicating what codes are possible, such as a link to the Proboards Support Code Index? They could look in there, modify variables as appropriate, and ask for the code to be inserted if permitted...

Codes that would be acceptable would be extra tables, a seperate banner for the board, an extra chat, etc... Mainly codes that "add" things, like chats and tables. Some codes wouldn't work, like miniprofiel mods and currencies, as those need to be in global headers.

Well, should we set up prices, then? oZone originally made prices the following: Item | Price | Sub-board | 20,000 Dan-Balls | Code | 1,000 Dan-Balls | Custom membergroup | 10,000 Dan-Balls |
With those kinds of prices, not many of us would be able to buy...including staff. What prices should we have for Sub-boards and codes, and what should the price for passwords be?

I think it should be this: Item | Price(DBs) | Sub-Board | 10,000 | Extra Table | 5,000 | Extra Chat | 4,000 | Custom Code | 6,000 | Password Protect | 5,000 | Member Group | 10,000 |

Do we really want to charge thousands for everything? I feel it shouldn't be too expensive to add a code after you've already spent 10,000 DBs getting the board. The only thing that should be anywhere near that price, maybe 1000 DBs, is an option to have a hidden board not displayed on the list. A link is in the password board. Item | Price(DBs) | Sub-Board (with description) | 10,000 | Custom Code | 500 | Password Protect | 1,000 | Hide board | 2,000 |
The tables and chat ARE custom codes. This is more what I think it should be. We don't need people to spend their life savings every time they buy a custom code. About the membergroup idea... I know it SOUNDS good, but you guys have no idea how many errors it would cause. We would have to modify basic codes, we would have to change all the viewing permissions, EVERY time a new membergroup came out!

How about these prices, since it is still relatively difficult for anyone to buy after a year of participation (look at my count, for instance...) Item | Price(DBs) | Sub-Board (with description) | 5,000 | Custom Code | 500 | Password Protect | 1,000 | Hide board | 2,000 |

I like those. I mean, i've been here for about 5 months, and even with the shops of mine that flourished, i still have only 6,000 DBs. Not to mention that i dont have to pay for anything, which is saying that i dont make a lot.
Also, i think this should be the one thing staff do have to pay for.

Your count is quite high. You could easily buy one, and some codes and jazz.
I do agree with that pricing thing. Are we ready to make the custom board shop?
As for the shop... We should have to pay for the boards, but not for the codes and stuff. This also isn't the ONE thing... we can't get blinking names for free.

Well, at least the boards, anyhow; staff should be able to get the smaller things, such as the password, for free...
EDIT: I think so...
