I thought of this when I was in the bath (typical).
I was walking through the usual streets in the city of Dan-Ball, doing the usual. However, something was difference. It was a long time before I spotted a sign entitled:
TWINNED WITH THE OFFICIAL DAN-BALL FORUMS
This was completly new to me, so I thought I would check it out. I followed the short link to the new town.
The town of the ODBF was much larger than I expected, but it seemed to have fewer people that Dan-Ball. Also, it had the look it had been recently re-styled. Curious, I pushed open the gate to the town.
I found myself standing in a huge square, with a statue of a godly-like figure called 'The Listo'. Vaguely recognising the name, I looked around me. There were many streets outlined in a newly paintes silver and light brown around me and some bored looking guards and some freshed face ones, desperate to prove themselves to get a better rank. Some people were talking nonchantly, others were talking seriously. In one street I heard much commotion. Deciding I'd start in the street called 'Importants Lane', I set off.
Here there had the town Laws and Help offices, where confused faces were reading the leaflets carefully, and others just tossed them in the bin with a malicious gleam on their faces. There was a place to register your name to become a member, but i didn't bother with that. Thinking that I didn't have enough time to examine them, I stepped into the next street.
This seemed to be the biggest road in the city which was called 'General St.'. Many side lines and allweys led off it. In one alley, some people were submitting ideas for tournaments to a frowning panel of judges. In another lane, people were handing out magazines and newpapers, with the bold headlines of 'Mayor returns' and 'New street- Member Lane'. I flicked through a couple of pages, which I was confused by. What the hell was a 'New Graphic Artist' and 'New name changing'?
In another lane, there were audiences and spectators watching people perform or work on art in front of another panel of judges.
The largest lane by far had, which was called 'General Tlk.' Even more alleyways running off it. This road seemed normal, and people were discussing un-important things with half-smiles on their faces. On one small alleyway, people were being more flamboyant, and their were fewer guards there. On another alley, was a great library. There were volumes upon volumes of history and fiction alike, one was entitled 'Listocist Bible' and another 'Swansong'. I saw a person write something which began with 'I thought of this when I was in...' but his arm covered up the rest.
In another alley, people seemed to be having fun playing word games and dares in various arcades. People were saying the word 'lol' a lot, which I thought was a bit odd, not knowing what it meant. Not investigating further, I pressed on.
In the next small lane, two groups of people were sitting on opposite rowes of benches. One person who's plaque said 'Sandmaster' had a very smug look on his face when he stumped the opponents. Another person's plaque had the name 'TDM'. He was being very patient as his oppent [SB] was ranting at him. He responded with the word 'wibble'. I began to doubt his sanity. Well, this was the internet after all....
In a smaller alleyway, people were investigating electronics and debating their uses, while others had safety helmets on while cutting out small pieces of Gigabytes. Feeling the heat, I jogged onwards- and almost got stepped on by an AT-AT. The driver aplogised and welcomed me, but soon had to leave because he had reports of 'rebel scum'. Whatever....
In a small cul-de-sac, people had those silly art robes, while some were showing other people galleries of their artwork. I glanced at a few, amazed by their patience and skill.
That seemed to be the last of the little alleyways, and I went back into the the main road. Another main road leading off it was called 'Member Brds'. Here people had their own rich-looking mansions customised for their pleasure. I had a small look round, having no idea what they were on about.
The next street was in chaos. There were no guards and many people were wecking up the battered buildings. People were attacking other people, and huge images of 'pandas' and 'hippos' were dropping out of the sky. I backed off, not wanting to become a part of it.
Another street was very...secretive. I tried to enter, but the guard demanded the 'password'. I had no idea, but I watched enviously as someone puched in the code and entered. I heard a brief clutter of hushes when the door was open, but it was soon cut off. I glared at the guard angrily, but I soon moved on.
I returned back to the main square, beginning to to amazed at the town. A very colourful street appealed to me. It was called 'Graphics Lane'. The first street which led off it was bustling with activity. People were queing up in shops and gazing at their items enviously. I had a quick stroll around, but the currency was completely confusing. People earned them every time they talked, which I thought was very peculiar.
The next alley which led off there was much smaller, and had only one big shop. A small que was there, making requests while the owner took notes and money.
Another 'graphic' alley gave out badges to proud members. It had a list of what you could get and what you needed to get for them. Knowing it would be pointless asking for one, i moved back to the square.
The next street had huge roads, but it was mainly deserted and everything there looked old, apart from the one called 'Powder GM'. I had uploaded many times on PG, so I entered the discussion there. People were talking about the uses of the new updates and construction, and when I politely pointed out Bg- Track was a bit pointless, veryone stopped to look at me. They asked me who I was, and then urg- begged for me to join, I declined, leaving dissapointed faces.
The final street seemed...secret. Only members who were of 'higher authority' and guards could see a clear entrance, while there was an error if I tried to get near it.
Just beyond that, was a great, silver plaza. This seemed to be the most popular place in the city. Inside, people were simply making faces at each other, or others randomly shouted out (until they were kicked out by the guards). I heard even more '[img src="http://i26.[tinypic].com/330tjb7.png"]', so I asked what it was as an 'anonymous person'. Immediately they began shouting 'noob' and me, which confused me even more. And, before I knew it, I found myself incapable of speech. So I left, my feelings hurt and saddened
As I was outside the gates, I reflected on how fun and secure that strange town was. I wouldn't join, I was already busy with Dan-Ball. I must visit again sometime...
So, whadda ya think?
