We should have an emergency site, for the event of an emergency (obviously). It doesn't have to be fancy or anything, just one board and one chat.

We need to remove that... people think we are lying about our official status because of the forums we've left lying around.
I'm sure I can host a phpBB board, possibly.

Or, we could just not have an emergency forum, and instead just back up the H/F regularly, and just go to the chat url when there is trouble...

I see no point. The likeliness of the forum going down is extremely unlikely, because proboards is a lot more secure than most people here think. As far as I know, its security has never been breached (those who were "hacked" were just because of simple passwords).

Mistafailure, my password was a heck of a lot longer than most people's here. I know as a fact it was more complex than Listo's. It used symbols, both uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers in multiple places... don't go assuming everything is simple.
Secure proboards may be, there seems to be a server problem at least once a month.

Still, unless the admin account is hacked the forum can't be deleted or taken down...

You called my password simple, which is practically blaming me for the entire thing. One thing I cannot stand is false accusation. I felt I had to correct it.
Also, you do need the admin account to delete the forums, but you sure can seriously mess it up with any adminitrator-or-above account.

There was no "probably" in there. It's blaming me, and in no indirect way.

The only thing we need to worry about is, as aforementioned, if TheListo's password and username combination are compromised (i.e. if his password is discovered) to someone irresponsible. If that happens, what is to keep backup sites from being similarly compromised?
I do not exactly see a reason to have a backup forum...

Quite simply, we have a different admin for the backup forum. A different password, at least.
TheListo could also check to make sure his password is as secure as I'm sure yours is, Veers.
I'm not too worried about the username. We all know it's "admin", as on all proboards forums. Anyone can figure out a username easily.

That's not a bad idea. for example, i often have the current admin password for the forums. while i am fairly sure that i am not going to suddenly lose all semblance of maturity and trash the site, if someone was on my computer they might be able to find the password in some old IM transcrips or something of the like and then mess with the forums. admitedly, the chances of this happening are extremly small but it doesn't hurt to have a backup.
A more likely problem would be a member with staff powers running amok. the scary part is, this could happen pretty easily; all it would take is for one of the staff to forget to log off before someone else uses that same comuter.
The backup site, as previously mentioned, could be a simple board for explaining what happened and a chat. if we put a fairly active member/staff in charge of the backup site we would avoid the chance that the account in charge of the backup site is the source of the problem.
When a high staff sees that something has happened to the site they could put it into matinence mode while the repairs are being done. i do not remember if we can alter the message displayed while in standby mode but if we can the link to the backup site would be included.

We can, G. It's a simple H/F code.

It would be nice if we could back up everything to the backup site, not just H/F, but accounts, posts, etc.
That probably wouldn't be possible though, would it? (Forgive me if I sound naive.)
