Hey guys. Which tools and codec are you using for compressing a video in good quality? I'm preferably looking for free stuff. I currently have a video of me running through MineTower 1.1 to floor 200 without any items. The video is still completely uncompressed at 25 fps and it has 14GB. Might be a little bit to large for the internet ... /me

I'm going to ask the obvious question since oblivion to its intended action will result in facepalms and lost time: did you try using Google, Ask, Bing, Yahoo, or other search engines to find how to effectively compress videos? I Googled "how to compress video files" and got results from some forums and Wikipedia. The top result seemed to have low ratings from its members and guests on account of the ineffectiveness of the answer. I then read the Wikipedia article on "Video Compression" and learned about the basics of interframe and intraframe compression. In short, I'm uncertain as to how you can effectively compress digital videos. Part of my uncertainty results from my inexperience in making videos (I never made a video, I never filmed, I never posted to YouTube, etc.). Sorry.

Clearly, with a 14 Gig size, its a totally uncompressed DV stream.
Personally, i use the AVI Codec. Its widely used, widely supported, and has pretty decent quality. I know of some decent conversion software, but i've had trouble with syncing video and audio, and it doesn't support DV. I mostly use it for ripping audio from YouTube videos.
