I was battling with the current rank 4 top winning percentage at level 37 and I would lost most of the battles. And now I'm level 38 I usually win most of the battles, does this mean that leveling really matters? Even if it is just one level and all I increased was range?

leveling really does matter. It's just that that one level is a very important step. I don't think you can get any higher-level than that currently.

Remember: If you spens one SP for +2 range you also get +2 LP. And in versus mode your LP are multiplied by 3 or by 5, depending on the class
Well, usually +20 LP (=5*4) or +12 LP (=3*4) and +4 range for each character dosn't make a real difference. But in some cases they might do. Also, are you sure you didn't change weapons or you got another compo item?

One level can make a large difference. Like they said, it gives you 12-20 LP, and you increase your attack so you give more damage for every hit. (If you increase a magician's attack with a fire weapon you cause a LOT more damage.)
If you increased your range, it might have built up enough that you can get once more hit on most teams, and that one hit can amount to a lot of damage.

Hah, very interesting things I've learned guys. Thanks. me2I kept the same weapons + combos. @everyone else Most of the people I fought were near same level, even similar weapons. So perhaps my extra LPs helped me out. Thanks.

You gotta remember that the life points you get are multiplied by 5 in VS, so one level can make a large difference.
