I was thinking, and I thought that it might be a good idea to offer rewards(other than the spam badge of course) to those who advertise for the forum. Someone would receive the reward if they could post a link and/or screenshot that would prove that they advertised. The reward may be something as simple as 15 danballs. I believe that this might stimulate growth for the forums, but only if members are enthusiastic enough to advertise for the prize. What's your opinion?

Well referring people and plain advertising are a bit different. This idea suggests that people be paid for posting the link to here on another site, regardless of whether or not they bring any members.

Exactly my thought. If we pay for them to just advertise, we'll be known as the forum that spams links to it everywhere. I don't think I want that. .-.

Actually M4, I believe there is already a 25 Dan-Ball reward for each member you recruit.
This reward system has been around almost since the beginning of the forum itself, even before I came here, which was January of 2008. In fact, it was the reason I recruited so many new members when I first joined.
It's just that no one ever talks about this reward and makes it widely known, that's all.

we do need more advertising from the members, i agree with that. and if we can convince members to actually try to bring people in i think it would do a great deal of good. Shadow was actually the one who got me to first check out this site. i think he received about 75 dan-balls for his work. haha, thanks btw.

Actually it was more like 500 Dan-Balls, G. And that was just the first week. ;D
Anyway, I think if we simply remind people of this existing reward, they'll probably start advertising a lot more. I say we should put in the news fader.

But there's really no point in rewarding advertising if it doesn't get us new members. Just advertising doesn't guarantee any new members.
We should only reward results.

The recruit thread has been open for about 3 months and only 2 people have come to it saying 'this person brought me here.' Maybe the problem is that people don't know about it... hopefully... because then we can just fix it by telling everyone about it. But if the problem persists... We'll see.

Hmm...Here is a thought:
What if we gave members the option to advertise by having them join a forum such as Proboards Support, giving them a signature link that will direct those who click it to the Dan-Ball Forums, and just have them post around that forum, but as long as they are not spamming the forums' boards...with that said we could give a certain amount of Dan-Balls to each post as long as the post does not break any of said forums' rules...

That would be a great idea. We just need someone to make a miniature version of our banner that people can put in their signatures.
It's a really simple job. I could probably do it, even with my limited graphic experience.

Perhaps one that is like the miniature Slightly Insane image that they have on their site advertising: "Support us!"
I will go ahead and do it now if you would like. I just need to go onto my other computer and set up GIMP.....

Thanks. It was pretty easy to make. All I did was cut out the empty space from the current banner and then shrink the whole thing down.
As far as size goes, I think it's pretty good the way it is. Let's see what everyone else thinks.
