wow.... three groups already.... I didn't actually think this would work.... meh...
I like how you can be staff, and then still be in a group without losing your stars... (I'm not joining a group though)
Imagine if a inter-group war breaks out...

An inter-group war has already broken out, between "True Blue" (whom I call the blue cakes, cake being a lie) and the nonja base.

How dare you! Should I tell everyone about your distinct lack of proper organization or a general chat board? Perhaps the fact that you sent out mass-PMs to everyone to invite them and have declared war against the other two groups for no reasons except to have a rival? Besides, any nonjas entering your group have to renounce their nonjaship. Permanently. They would then become a nonja fighter and subject to torture. This is a terrible fate for any nonja. Anyway, this thread is over. The idea's been put into place. There is no reason to keep it.

Just one last question (ignoring the lock)
Where are the group boards?

|
Post by Qwerty on Nov 15, 2009 17:54:06 GMT -5
Unless you join a group, you can't see them. As you are a staff member, you cannot join a group. As such, you can't see them.

OK, and that works how? Cant we just set it that staff can see all group boards? Because it is a little unfair

If all staff could see them, they wouldn't be private.

yea... (and slightly on topic)
I can still see the Delta Category. Could someone fix that?

Well, until I (using TheListo's account) create the specialized "staff-like" Delta leader rank, all Category Moderators are going to be able to see the Delta Regiment category. FoxtrotZero is staff, but he is also the leader of that category, so for now his staff rank will be able to access his board.

Well, as i am the only administrator, could you just set it that administrator can see the delta regiment category?

Why don't we just give every single person a unique rank while we are at it? No, we can't. See what I'm getting at?

Well, in Vaconcovat's case, it is not a unique rank, it is just "coincidence" (note the quotation marks...) that he is the only Administrator. For the time being that he is the only Administrator, the boards could be modified to allow Administrators to see it; however, that would be mismatching rank and permissions since we would need a situation where Vaconcovat could access the category while other Administrators (when they come to be) would still be unable to access it.
To solve that, we would need "specialized" ranks, and that is when our problem arises...
...although I must say that your argument, QwertyuiopThePie, is the Slippery Slope / Straw Man logical fallacy...

Eh, good point. I don't like making logical fallacies.
I suppose you could allow Administrators to see the Delta Regiment, and cross that bridge when we come to it. As for Fox's case, it should probably still be called "Category Moderator".

ok, we need to somehow find a way to only alow the members with the custom ranks for the certain groups to be able to see the board. (and I can also now see the nonja base)

VIROS joined the nonja base, so we gotta fix that, too.

Should we just let all staff be capable of viewing all boards? That sure would be simpler, under the highly reasonable assumption that staff can be trusted to stay to their custom categories of choice...

Yes, we could do that, but the boards would no longer be very private. I mean, we have a lot of staff members.

Well, what are our options? Option | Pro | Con | Create a non-high staff rank for each custom category. | - Staff can become members.
- Staff can see their own categories without seeing other custom categories.
| - The number of possible non-high staff ranks quadruple if we include non-affiliated staff.
- Caution will be necessary to match powers from the "broad" rank to the "customized" rank.
| Let all staff see all custom categories. | - Staff can become members.
- Staff, when applicable, can continue to moderate boards that would otherwise be hidden.
| - Custom groups are no longer quite separate or private.
| Refuse staff entry into custom groups. | - The staff problem is avoided.
| - Staff cannot join member groups.
- Custom categories go unmoderated.
| Do away with custom groups altogether. | - All custom group and category problems are avoided.
| - We undo quite some work.
- Affiliated members become resentful.
|
Are there any others aside from what I listed?
