I'm going to program my own version, since I liked that little thing. The script seems simple enough, I could have a beta up in a week or so. I guess the idea is fair game now that it's gone. The php generated images seem easy enough too, but the first release will have to be a top-down view webpage. I can allow for bigger plots too, at least 10x10 but with room to upgrade. If I finish a pre-release copy then I'll start taking suggestions for features.

1.Everybody will have to choose and id to his/her city. (ex: http://[domainname]/veiw.php?veiw=[id] 2.The rest will be exactly like Rosacities. 3.Get permission from chronologik...maybe.

Easier:
Start a petition to bring back rosacities.
Or, of course, we could team and make a better version, considering rosacities was epic....

True! Maybe DB-themed?

I have the code of RosaCities. The reason it was taken down was because of loss of interest of James.
I'm revising the code, and will re-release it later...
But what features would you like to see?
Please don't try to make a new "RosaCities". Please, just don't. It WILL be back. I might also make it completely different, with the same graphics... (an actual simulation? like SimCity?)

Never mind then, I won't make a custom copy. All yours. I wasn't quite comfortable with taking someone else's idea myself anyway.
Bigger plots might be nice by the way.

I'd like to see stuff other than farms and metropolises.
>> Ability to place roads, and not just have the default corner roads >> Various themes (Grass, Snow, Desert... thats all that comes to mind) >> Expandable Plots (MUST. HAVE.) >> Water Features (Water squares, automatically blending with adjacent land) >> Railways, Train Stations, Airports, Military Facilities, Military Formations, etc.
Idea: Have a way for people to make their own building sprites. Existing buildings, personal styles. Also, I think we should scrap the 'per view' BASIS, instead making it sort of an economy:
>> Food Bearing Structures supply Populace Needs >> Energy-Producing Structures allow Full-Capacity Operation >> Other Buildings supply Income
And then, as far as I can tell, military or residence buildings are kinda for show...
Page visits could still yield income, 'tourism'

Great ideas, once I clean this code up, and get James to do some GFX...I'll start working on it

Great. All i would like to see is some animations, and fix up the costs of buildings. Some are way too overpriced.
Also, could we have more than one person work on it?

You should make something like RosaCities except you can move your camera around and fly around the plot. Amount of time peoople spend flying around your city = money gained. It could be Java, that can be used by pretty much everyone. If you want my help I could probably make a DirectX version, but that only runs on Internet Explorer... Actually, the 3D plot thing would be pretty darn easy for me... *Goes to work on it just for the heck of it

The chance of 3D is very low. Very low.
And I don't know if I'll have it so that views=money.
I might make it into something like SimCity.
Simcity 3000 for that matter. Very fun game...
Actually, on second thought...static 3d might be an option. I'd be resource heavy though.

What languages are you were using, out of curiosity? Are the images PHP generated? File databases or MySQL? Just wondering.
3D might get a little over the top, I think it should stay simple.
How about the ability to see your plot's position relative to other peoples' plots?

I'm a Visual Basic programmer. You would just stick the user's data in a file, like a .txt, then the embedded program would open the file data and render the 3D graphics, piece 'o cake.
As for your last query. It could be a giant world, and everyone would buy a plot... That would be sweet.

It's MySQL.
Images generated dynamically with the GD library.
I might make an API so you could write a program to render the city in 3d.
RosaCities will be a simulation game (like simcity)...but James wants me to change the name...ideas anyone?
In the new RosaCities...you will be able to trade money and resources too!
